The team (pictured), which ages from 16 to 61, will be led by senior minister the Revd Graham Brownlee and youth minister Glenda Down.

He explained that the idea of visiting Kenya came out of a desire at the church to establish 'a cross generational partnership with an overseas church'.

'Several of our members have family links with Kenya and it was through talking with them that the idea of forging a partnership with Parklands Baptist Church in Nairobi came about.

'We have been planning the trip for over a year now and the whole team is raring to go. The projects we will be involved in are incredibly varied.'

The projects include running a holiday club in a church plant on Nairobi's Mombasa Road; providing advice and support to a 50 strong medical mission based close to the Kenya/Uganda border, and setting up solar panels in a remote village school in Loongeiwuan, the Rift Valley 350 miles from the country's capital.

The team includes teachers, engineers, students, administrators and a consultant paediatrician. They are each hoping to be able to divide their time between at least two of the three projects.

Graham added, 'At Loongeiwuan we will be helping Parkland's missionary Doreen construct a permanent activity marquee, offering training and support to both pupils and staff at a local school and, by installing solar panels, not only helping to provide a source of power but opening up a small but precious funding stream as that power is then used to recharge a whole raft of portable devices.'

'The medical team, which will be led by Glenda, will be concentrating on health education as well as assisting pharmacists and arranging hospital appointments, while our people at the Mombasa Road plant will be busy working alongside local teachers and running a holiday club.'

It is hoped that while the team are in Kenya they will be posting regular blogs.
