Sheringham BeachLife activity week gears up for the crowds

The BeachLife activity outreach for children and young people will take place on Sheringham sea-front at the end of this month.

The mission will build on the success of the last three years, and the organisers are gearing up for a bumper attendance again this year.

Sheringham300BeachLife is a joint venture by the churches in Sheringham and supported by Scripture Union, aimed at engaging with local youngsters, as well as holidaymakers.

The four days of fun packed activity will be taking place from Tuesday August 25 to Friday 28 and the event is open to all, from toddlers up to age 17, but those younger than reception year should be accompanied by an adult.

Daily activities will start with the “Beach Special” at 10.30am every day except Friday, where all ages come together at the cliff-top marquee on The Leas for music, games, drama and fun, and to introduce the day’s theme, which this year is "High Fives". The children and young people then split into age-groups for their “Going Deeper” sessions to explore that day’s theme in more depth before breaking for lunch. On the Friday, the morning starts at 10.30am with the Going Deeper session.

The afternoons comprise of beach games and sports, beach sculptures, giant inflatables including the Demolition Ball and human table football, boat challenge, a family barbecue, and the tide fight.

Evening activities for young people will include a quiz night with chips, town trail, a “Sheropoly” challenge around the town, and the return of the popular “egg parachute” challenge.

'This is fast becoming one of the major events in the town calendar,' said Peter Skivington, one of the organisers and youth pastor at the Lighthouse Community Church (formerly Sheringham Baptist Church).

'Not only does this provide an opportunity for the churches to engage with local youngsters, but we provide a great week for visitors as well.'
