I requested a review copy of this book because I supposed that the title had to do with views of Messiah Jesus. Wrong, the book is about the mess Christians make of things and how messy life is in the eyes of Verwer (born 1938), the founder and long-time leader of Operation Mobilisation.

I had missed the book’s subtitle which is ‘The mystery of how God works even when it doesn’t make sense to us’. Regrettably, the fascinating and troubling question of how God can work through (for example) people who live in conscious sin is not explored in any depth: Verwer only scratches its surface.

In actual fact this little book is about several things: Verwer tells stories about himself, he recommends many books by others (as he always did and does) and he provides tips for situations in life. The author shows a generous spirit and deserves our respect as a visionary leader, but his book fails to impress me.

The book was originally published in 2015 under the title More Drops. Mystery, Mercy and Messiology.
