A range of speakers have been announced for the next Theology Live!, which is taking place on 13 January 2023

** update - links to these talks can be found here **

Theology Live

Theology Live! brings together Baptists engaged in theological and biblical research to share their thinking. The day comprises a series of short papers, reflecting the diversity of current Baptist theological engagement, with opportunities to interact with speakers, who are listed below.

Like last year, this is a hybrid event, meaning those interested can join onsite at Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, or online.

‘We’re once again excited about Theology Live 2023,’ said Andy Goodliff, one of the organisers.

‘There will be again be eight speakers presenting on a wide range of topics that will stimulate our minds and inspire our hearts.

‘The day showcases Baptists who are thinking about faith and what that means for the church and its witness.’

The speakers on 13 January include:

  • Glen Marshall — The Preacher as Truth-Teller: honesty and dishonesty in the pulpit
  • Esther McManus — “Why did God take my baby?” Exploring God’s providential activity in a baby’s death in conversation with Karen O’Donnell’s The Dark Womb and Karl Barth’s Doctrine of providence.
  • Zoltan Schwab — Is God Jealous? (Pondering about Gen. 2–3)
  • Richard Weaver — Baptists, Community Organising and Listening Well
  • Paul Goodliff — Piero della Francesca’s Baptism of Christ
  • Ruth Wilde — 'Disability in the Godhead': Is it true? If it is, what does it mean for our lives and our faith?
  • Edward Pillar — ‘I am not ashamed of the gospel … for in it the righteousness of God is revealed.’ Exploring the Righteousness of God (Rom. 1:17) as the Dynamic of Community Life and Politics.
  • Ruth Moriarty — Discernment: Embodied wisdom at the Church Meeting
  • Laura Levens — Ann Judson’s imprint upon Baptist mission theology
